It had been a long day. If Sam believed the clock on the wall, and he guess he had to, it had only been a few hours ago that he and his brother had been questioning locals about the strange goings on at the warehouse on the edge of town. It was hard to believe, in that short time, they had come so close to a second run in with Zachariah and his ( Read more... )

Dean could still feel the guilt clawing at his insides. He felt stupid too. Real fucking stupid for almost handing Cas, his friend, over to the angels who were setting up their own little garrison in the warehouse he and Sam had been intending to check out. Turned out they figured out too late just what they were headed toward, and it was only because he'd already told Cas to meet them there that he sped up and didn't turn back. Usually he'd avoid contact with angels as much as he possibly could - they only wanted him for one thing, and unfortunately it wasn't the fun kind of one thing ( ... )

"Cas? I'm sorry." Dean sank to his knees, tried to catch the angel's gaze because this? This wasn't a good enough. Since when had Cas stopped talking to him. He complained about it, but deep down he valued it.

"There's nothing wrong with--" He frowned at that, tried to work out what he was trying to say.

"You can be pissed at me for messing up, man. Or chew me out for being stupid. Or... whatever you want. Just... don't sit there like that not sayin' anythin'. Don't do what I do."

"I have no desire to be 'pissed' with you, as you say, nor do I wish to 'chew you out'," Cas spoke quietly, looking up on instinct as he sensed Dean drop down to his level. "But I do not know what you wish me to say. I have nothing I wish to discuss."

Talking about Dean was easy. Talking about God and Lucifer and Heaven and Hell was easy. But Castiel had never been asked to talk about himself, and he found the idea of that far harder.

"You don't want to talk about it. Okay." Dean wasn't sure he could force the angel to speak if he wanted to. He hated it when anybody tried to lay the same guilt-trip on him, so he stopped and let his hands rest either side of Cas's thighs on the mattress, wondering when the hell it had become so important to him that he didn't let the angel down. He hated the way it felt.

"What happened was unfortunate, and it made me fearful," Castiel spoke into the silence, eyes focussing on Dean's hands at the sides of his thinghs on the bed. "But I escaped, and we are both here to tell the tale. I feel no need to discuss the matter further."

The angel had nothing more he could think of saying, and he found himself hoping that Dean wouldn't be satisfied. He liked the physical closeness Dean was currently offering, even if the conversation was not to his liking.

"You were scared?" Dean asked, frowning because the thought of Cas being scared was something that scared him, whether he'd admit it outright or not. He didn't know when his hand had moved from the bed to Cas's thigh, fingers and thumb squeezing in a rarely seen show of physical reassurance.

Castiel couldn't help the way his eyes darted to Dean's hand as it moved to his thigh, body tensing for a microsecond before relaxing into the soft touch.

"I have already had my second chance," he found himself explaining despite himself, wanting to eradicate the frown on Dean's face. "If I was returned to Heaven, it would not be for correction. I would have been incarcerated, at the very least."

Dean really didn't like the sound of that, and his hand didn't show any signs of moving from where it was wrapped around the angel's thigh, his thumb stroking a gentle line close to the inside. This whole thing bothered him, and he was angry at himself for letting Heaven get close to Cas again.

"I'm sorry." He knew it wasn't enough, and he couldn't help himself thinking about what might have happened. He wouldn't have seen Cas again. Ever.

"Dean..." Castiel could no longer concentrate on the conversation at hand, every sense distracted by the touch he was being given by the man. It was more comforting to him than any words ever could be, and he really couldn't think of anything to say with Dean's fingers touching him like that.

"What?" Dean looked up, now confused as to why Cas was saying his name like he was doing something wrong. He hadn't even noticed what he was doing, and the second he did, he pulled his hand away and found it in him to look sheepish.

"No," the word was too quick from the angel's lips as Dean pulled back, hand going some way towards grabbing at the man's hand before stopping himself short.

"I liked it," he came close to muttering, expression sheepish.

Dean hadn't been expecting Cas to be so open about liking it, the way that he was keeping his guard up about what happened at the warehouse made him feel like this wasn't going to be an exercise in sharing feelings. He didn't like those anyway, but he knew this whole thing was his fault. And if Cas liked his hand there?

He let his fingers and thumb wrap back around the angel's thigh, thumb returning to stroking soothingly as his eyes fixed back on Cas's face. If this made him feel better who was he to stop?

Head dropping down so that his chin was against his chest, Castiel took a deep and unnecessary breath, eyes still trained on Dean's hand. Slowly, awkwardly, he reached out a hand of his own and rested it against the man's shoulder, squeezing softly.

"This uh... this helps?" Dean asked, thumb still stroking its gentle line closer to the inside of his thigh, eyes not leaving Cas's face who in turn was staring at his hand.

The hand that appeared at his shoulder was surprising, but he didn't shrug it away. If Cas wanted his hand there after everything that happened, he wasn't going to stop him.

"Yes," Castiel stated, not thinking that in doing so, he was admitting to needing help. He was far too distracted by Dean's touches, as well as the touch he was giving Dean's shoulder.

Forcing his gaze upwards, Castiel found himself caught in Dean's gaze, his mouth hanging open stupidly.

"Touch helps?" Dean asked as if to make extra sure before he did anything stupid and before he did anything that Cas might not want. His hand stilled as he waited for the answer, eyes glued to the angel's.
