A conversation on the beach, wine included. Turns out those guys are pretty funny! Written for hendercats who was enduring a day without laptop, and posted at my journal in March 2007. ( Read on, MacDuff )
The Desmond-speake is spot on...very good and I really love it. It really adds to the story.
"I'm Scottish, you know, nae British. There's a difference, yeah?"
A small correction: "British" encompasses the peoples of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. So Des is indeed British, and Scottish. Perhaps you meant to use English instead...it's a common misnomer.
I simply ADORE the mind-reading reference!!
"Right," Desmond said, sitting himself down upon the sand. "What do you say we give it a go?"
"The sex, or the drinkin' and the smokin'?"
Desmond laughed, cracked open the Merlot and handed it to Sawyer. "Let's start with the drinkin' and the smokin', Southern Man, and leave the rest for another time."
Thanks for explaining the British/English thing - I had in mind there was a certain part of the population of Scotland that backed separation from the Crown, and that's where I was coming from, but, since I've got the "Sawyer intentionally labels Desmond as any and everything except Scottish" thread going in my head as a running gag for this pairing, I appreciate your input and will work on fixing that!
All of which was to say, sincerely, thanks and I'll correct it!
And, since you seem to know, I'm pleased that Desmond's voice sounded right to you - Deb and I both really want these two to sound like themselves, as they have such distinctive ways of speaking.
Thanks for reading and for the great, supportive comments!
Thanks so much! Just so you know, we intend for this to be a well rounded community - you know, a little humor, a little angst (but not nearly as much as the J/S pairing generates!), a lot of lust and, sooner or later, sex...
