He collects them, in a way. Though he would never dream of admitting it to himself. That would seem too much, too...clinical, somehow. As though he sees them merely as specimens.
He doesn't want to think of them that way. They're his friends. It's that simple.
Except when there's danger; that tends to complicate matters. Or else when he inadvertently reminds them--or himself, for it does happen now and then--that he's something Other Than Them.
Still, he does his best not to think in those terms. He keeps things light when he can, shows them things they'd never have seen if they'd stayed home. Hopes they enjoy it all as much as he does.
They're beautiful in his eyes. Oh, they're maddening, of course; that's only natural. Unavoidable. He's sure that he grates on their nerves now and then, too.
But, for the most part, he likes to think that their time with him is happy. Fun. Educational at times--even for someone like him, who's seen more of it already than they can ever imagine, and will no doubt go on to see far more than even he
