“Sorry, must be going,” Jason cut in, slamming the door just as Sir Curtis’ eyes clouded back over. He turned to Annabelle and Stewart. “It’s a gas. Their clothes are soaked in it. When they jump on someone else, it’s absorbed into their clothes. Maybe even their skin. They can’t get away from it, so they go under. I’d wager that there’s someone out there spraying them down regularly to keep the potency up-probably explains the rotting smell. The cigarette smoke competes with it, weakens the effect.” He cast around, looked up and spotted an air vent. “If we can get it into the ventilation system,” he began, leaping up on the table and prying off the grate, “we might be able to cure them long enough to get out and find who’s pulling the strings
