Does anyone know how long my thumb should be numb before I should see a doctor about it? It's been about three days now. I think I may have shut it in a door. It doesn't hurt, although it twinges occasionally. It's the right-hand side of my left thumb, and it feels like when you've sat on your foot and it's gone to sleep, i.e. I can feel the ( Read more... )

Odds are that you've bruised or swollen something and it's pressing on a superfical nerve or some such. Can you move the thumb OK? It hasn't changed colour or anything troubling like that?

Yes, I can move it, and no, it hasn't changed colour. It's hurting more than it was, but perhaps that means that swelling's coming down? I don't want to waste people's time, which is why I haven't gone to see someone yet.
