To Bournemouth...and back!!

Aug 10, 2010 20:20

Finally returning to reality after our week-long adventure in Bournemouth. Despite some grey clouds and drizzly afternoons, we were pretty lucky with the weather and had plenty of time to cycle until we could stand no more...or simply just stand full stop ( Read more... )

You can book cheap tix through Megatrain to Brockenhurst and from there cycle to several nice places in the New Forest including Burley, Lyndhurst, Beaulieu, and Lymington. We already have plenty of places in mind for our next visit. Have bikes, will cycle!!!

We did a cycling weekend in the New Forest for Rob's 40th birthday, a couple of years back. Stayed in the pub in Burley (can't remember the name now but it was very nice and quite reasonably priced.)
It was a fab weekend, although the gravel paths could be a bit tough at times!

Cecile - you would love Burley, full of witchy stuff and alternative shops, in a village surrounded by beautiful countryside!

Maybe it was the Burley Inn? I love the cycling paths in the woodsy area around Burley - and my sexy new bike copes well with the gravel which is a bonus. Just have to watch out for the wild ponies!

I agree that Cecile would adore Burley - it's right up her street.

yep that will be the one, the Burley Inn!

We have hybrid bikes too, although not as sexy looking as yours. :-)

Ha ha, it was a lot more than I intended on spending, but I decided to push the what the hell button & splash out. We're cycling to the picnic on Saturday - I'm not going to let it become a dust collector!

Just need to sort out a basket now. The bracket for the wire mesh one I bought broke from the pressure because my handlebars are a bit too thick so I have to start again. Trying to convince myself that I really don't need this one:

Thanks! I haven't been there in quite a few years so it was lovely to revisit...especially with my own bike! Next time we'll probably stay over a night or two in Burley so we can spend more time exploring the surrounding forest, having picnics and indulging in more cream teas of course, instead of only a short break between cycling there and back.

From recent posts it sounds like things are good with you too! 8-)) Thought of you when I booked some FrightFest tix last weekend. Are you going again this year??

Booked a hotel for the Sunday night of FF a couple of months back in preparation , although it is now likely will only be doing one or two films this year.
Probably one on the Sunday and one Monday , all we can afford.
Which ones are you going to see ?

Outcast on Friday night, Monsters Saturday night and Damned by Dawn Sunday night. Wanted to keep the daytime free for other things as it's the bank holiday and any time off work is very precious to me in this day and age of strikes, ash, floods, etc.

Funny that they're all low budget flicks, but hopefully there will be some pleasant surprises. Expecting Monsters to be the best of the bunch.

Any thoughts on which two you'll go for?
