Oh, I like this very much. That's the first time I read something about John's relationship to his father that had the twist of Patrick actually being proud of John for pushing back even if it put a lot of strain on their father/son-relationship.

P.S. I actually forgot to mention: at first I was really a little afraid it could be Dave who was reading the letter and John was dead (or missing). *g*
Thank you! I am glad you liked it. I think John's relationship with his Dad was one of a father with great plans for a son and who was bitterly disappointed that son didn't want the life planned for him. the father had too much pride to forgive and the son realized all too well how much he disappointed the old man, and maybe had a little pride of his own.
Also, I did write it so that there was room to think John was dead. ;)
