Sneaks in under the wire

Taking the time to post very quickly as I can guarantee that this will be only time in the year I can say this.

Having finished Poison Study by Maria V Snyder a couple of hours ago, this is the only time in the year that I can say that I'm averaging 1 book a dayWhat?! I have to take my wins where I can get them! *g ( Read more... )

Having just finished another book, I almost made 13 books by the 13th, but not quite!

I was intrigued by Poison Study, but I will freely admit that, for whatever reason, I was not expecting to love it quite so much as I did. I had a few horrifying moments where I thought that it was going to end like Canavan's Black Magician Trilogy. However, Snyder used the same plot point as Canavan and yet did not screw it up like Canavan did. (As you may be realising, BM Trilogy and I did not get on well.)

And I was also getting impressions of Tamora Pierce's Alana (which I now have a sudden yearn to re-read).

At any rate, like enough that I immediately went out and bought books two and three. *g* Sadly, unlikely to arrive in tomorrow's post.

I haven't read any of the Black Magician trilogy or in fact anything written by Trudi Canavan, so I read Poison Study in blissful ignorance! I think in fact that you and rosenchanted bought me Poison Study for a birthday or Christmas a couple of years ago. :)

At some point I'm going to get around to getting the other books. :) I also really need to buy the more recent Tamora Pierce books (her Terrier series and I think there's a new one from the Circle series too).

I was absolutely sure that you'd read the Black Magician Trilogy. I really enjoyed ~90% of it, but there was one plot point that I hated with a passion. The fact that I would re-read (despite the plot point) says a lot about it. But yeah, I hated it. And rosenchanted knew I'd hate it. (Still recommended I read it tho!) I can almost guarantee that you won't have the same issues I had - I'm pretty sure you'd really like them.

I can foresee Tamora Pierce re-read in my close future. *g*
