Original Fiction

I signed up for a creative writing course this year to force myself to write stuff that's not fanfiction. The problem was that I didn't know what to write that wasn't fanfiction. So I ended up writing a fanfic that's not a fanfic, that is, it's in the genre of fanfiction, it uses and parodies some fanfic conventions, only it's not about a fandom. ( Read more... )

Still tweaking the layout, I see.

Hey, can you bring me my orange folder, my ukey history text (both of which should be on the floor by my bed), and my green ukey notebook (on my bed, with JHP 304 written on the inside of the cover) -- or, more specifically, the handout on how to do bibliographical entries that should be inside the notebook. If it's not in that one, check the other notebooks.

I'll be in Robarts, probably in the little computer room on the first floor.

Please reply if you get this, or call my cell and leave a message.

Thnx

Love the not-fic!

Terrific commentary on life, and fandom, and on the mixing of the two.

Tina talks like she belongs in the Buffyverse.

From one procrastinating creative writer to another, this is a really good story. Like I said, I had never read a "Five Things..." story before (but I have checked out the ones you mentioned, BTW; it looks like a fun fic genre). The format really lets you explore different aspects of the character.

It's so great that the language changes in the last section. Tina's hair is suddenly "lustrous blonde hair" and she has "glittering emerald eyes". The second she tells Peter her name, I went "Ah! Mary Sue!"

I do have one question. Did you get any feedback saying that Tina's dialogue didn't sound "natural"? As another who was influenced by Joss' writing style, do you find yourself writing in a sort of "Buffy" speak when writing dialogue?
