Wow, Jessa, this email is FANTASTIC! Thank you. I think I may just print our your comments and bring them with me to help me and my friends pick. Eventually I want to watch all of Classic Who (that's available) if I can - and I just found out that one of my friends here has it all so I'll be able to, but for this trip we'll definitely be able to sample some of the best!

Please send me the link to the drinking game - that might be fun! Thanks for the warning too, although I've seen enough clips from Classic Who to know the special effects are laughable in many places, but I'm prepared for this.

And now that I've buried you in my Who!Geek essays, I'm going to go play with my Daleks, my fourty foot scarf, and my sonic screwdriver. I really hope you guys have a fantastic, brilliant, and friend-filled time of it!HAHAHA! Okay this comment convinced me that you need to see pictures of where we're going: http://www.doctorjohnsmith.co.uk/The%20Cottage.html... )

We went with sips, because we didn't want to pass out before we'd gotten through the first episode... :-)

Hand of Fear. With 4 th Doctor and Sarah Jane
Any of the Sarah / Harry / fourth Doctor.
The Genesis of the Dakeks was brilliant

I loved Thurough and The Black Guardian with the 5 th doctor.
Peri's voice always gave me a migraine but Cave of Andonozi

I agreed with Tennant and loved the Planet of the spider and all the Master episodes.

I will have to think of some more with Leela and Romanas. i and Ii
But yes I did love Sarah Jane as hs companion.

6th Trial of a Time lord.

I have very little to add to what jessalrynn said, she really covered about 99% of what I would've said, but here's my additional two cents:

Five: "The Caves of Androzani," his final story. It's worth watching to see the circumstances surrounding his regeneration. Plus we get a reason as to why he wears celery on his lapel.

Seven: "The Curse of Fenric," in which we get a lot of something that's sorely missing in Old Who: character development. Ace is love, and Seven can really be a manipulative bastard, even if the ends do justify the means.

And you know I can't go without mentioning Eight in some fashion:

Four's tenure was the longest of any Doctor, except, technically, Eight, and that only technically, because all we have of Eight is the '96 Movie.

Actually, if you factor in all forms of media (novels, audios, comics as well as TV eps), Eight has more stories to his credit than any other Doctor. Just remember that the TVM is not the best of Eight.

Oh, and I also second her recommendation to include copious amounts of alcohol in the endeavor. Continuity, low budget - but also the storytelling just isn't the same as New Who. It's one reason I love Big Finish so much: the story style is much more similar to New Who and they don't have low-budget sets & costumes working against them...

Anyway, have a fabulous time, and I can't wait to hear how everything goes!

Heh yeah, i am prepared for the low budgetness of classic who, We shall most likely mock and laugh - tastefully of course.. and yes alcohol should probably be involved....

Thanks Cindy! I think it's going to be hard for us to choose! Good thing we're there for a week (though we are doing day trips to places like castles and Dover and Canterbury!)

Haha I wondered when you'd bring up 8! Actually I was out for drinks with some friends on Wed night and one of them is a HUGE classic who fan (she also gave me a long verbal list, I'm hoping she'll come on here to reiterate it 'cause I've forgotten what she said - but I know there was a lot of overlap with what Jessa has said so that's good). Anyway, it turns out she owns all the 8 audios so you will be very happy to know that i shall be borrowing them at some point and may have to email you with squee if i get to that point - just fyi - won't happen for a while though!

Thank you thank you Cara. This list is awesome. It (as well as the others) is printed out and in my bag for tomorrow so I am SET! So many of these sound good, I hope we have enough time to watch. if not I will be knocking on your door soon...

I'm laughing at your opening statement Yes, you can change at will. Also, I give you permission to kidnap me some weekend and force me to watch whatever DW you want... :) You can be my educator! :)

*rolls up sleeves* Alright.

One: If you've never seen Classic Who and you're looking to do a little of each Doctor, An Unearthly Child is basically a must-see for the Hartnell years since it was the first Doctor Who story ever. A lot of people say that the first episode is better than the next three (which focuses on warring cavemen), but I still found it worth the watch. If you're looking for something more in the middle, The Romans is an excellent mixture of farce and drama. The DVD is also packaged with The Rescue, which is probably worth watching right before The Romans since it's only 2 episodes and introduces a new companion.

Two: The Mind Robber. Hands down, The Mind Robber. Very fun, wacky, and metatextual with all kinds of literary and mythological allusions and characters. Also has one of my favorite TARDIS crews: Two, Jamie, and Zoe.

Three: Spearhead From Space. It's his first story, but it's one of my favorite Doctor introduction stories ever. If you're looking for something more in the middle, Inferno is excellent but ( ... )
