Top Ten Favourite Doctor Who Episodes

Apr 27, 2010 19:39

EarlGreyTea68, who got the idea from a challenge issued by johnmayergirl23 to _thirty2flavors, posted her top ten favourite Doctor Who episodes, in order. Her list got me thinking about what my favourites are so I decided to give this a go. Trust me, it's harder than it looks.

This is my top ten:

"The Girl in the Fireplace" was my number 11. I love it, too. I love the "Good name for a horse" / "No, you're not keeping the horse" exchange. It cracks me up.

And PiC is a good choice! I did think that episode was brilliant, especially with the awesome Rose reveal at the end.

LOL oh yes, the Horse exchange was awesome. So funny.

Oh I love PIC. It was such a fantastic way to open S4 and bring back Donna and then the Rose reveal just pushed it over the top.

What an awesome idea and all your comments make me want to watch all those episodes again, too. I just watched Blink the other day and spent a lot of it trying to work out who the actress who played Sally Sparrow was (finally remembered imdb around halfway in, hehe). I honestly don't know how you could have done this. I keep thinking of episodes I really enjoyed but I have no idea how to go about ordering them.

I know that feeling, I totally wanted to watch every episode EGT mentioned when I read hers. I think maybe when I finish my Buffy Rewatch I'll do a full DW rewatch. Or maybe I'll just watch random episodes.

Ordering them was SO hard. I just ended up looking at my list and going with my gut reaction.

LOL your icon.

10. The Girl in the Fireplace By Steven Moffat
Ditto! I ache for Rose in this one, but this episode is just so dang good! And I can't hate Reinette - who can dislike that little girl who grew up to love her imaginary friend? The scene with the horse crashing through the mirror and that wink he gives - sooo good! So much quippy dialogue in this one, too!

9. The Shakespeare Code By Gareth Roberts

It's the Expeliarmus which really nails this episode for me! *squeeee!*

8. The Doctor's Daughter By Stephen Greenhorn
Pookie made me sign her up for gymnastics as a result of watching Jenny's backflips in this episode! What I love about it is how Jenny craves her Dad's affection and approval, and how he warms up to her rather quickly and so obviously delights in loving her by the end. It's an interesting one to think about in light of your observations about Father's Day, actually.

7. Parting of the Ways By Russell T. DaviesChristopher Eccleston's amazingly broad range of emotions in this episode - gah! Just fantastic. The ( ... )

LOL I love your response and comments. I totally want to rewatch all of these now.

Pookie made me sign her up for gymnastics as a result of watching Jenny's backflips in this episode! LOLOLOL That is awesome. Is she still taking them?

What I love about it is how Jenny craves her Dad's affection and approval, and how he warms up to her rather quickly and so obviously delights in loving her by the end. This is such a good point. I never thought about it that way but it's so true. Awww, Now I want to rewatch this one.

It's an interesting one to think about in light of your observations about Father's Day, actually. Which observations do you mean? I made a few lol

I really wish we had gotten another season or three out of him. Yeah, he left just as he was really hitting a groove. *sigh*. You remember how hard I took that regeneration - although DT was so awesome I did get over it.

This is the episode I showed Pooh, my hubby and son (all separately) in order to convince each of them ( ... )

Do it! Do the Buffy thing. And I promise I'll do them too -- just after I manage to actually narrow both series down to a top ten, lol. Am I allowed to put in Classic Who? Because there's an episode that I still recall some of the dialogue from even all these years later. It really has to make the cut.

Okay. Maybe this weekend once I'm done with some stuff at school.

Oh yes, Classic Who TOTALLY counts. I can't wait to see your list!

Oh my, I mean how does one choose

So many great episodes but do you know I still love Rose, the start of it all and where my love for this show began.

Not sure I could compile just a list of ten.

Oh trust me, I know! There were so many episodes that almost made the cut. Rose was one of them, as was The Doctor Dances. Then there's Human Nature/Family of Blood, and a ton from Season 2, Not to mention Runaway bride and the more recent specials. It was VERY hard to narrow it to ten, and then to put them in order. I mostly just followed my gut, but really I could do a post with reasons why I like each episode almost. Because they all have something in them that I like. There isn't a single episode I despise.

HA! I swiped this from you and did it myself, and it was lots of fun!

Interesting - I cheated and did an "honorable mention" section, and a lot of those stories are in your list here. But "Father's Day" is the only one that made both of our top ten. I agree, it's an amazing story.

I saw your list! I knew of like 3 of the things on your list and everything else was new. LOL. But since you were drawing from Classic Who and the Audios that makes sense. Oh yeah, Father's Day is, IMO the best episode of S1.

Actually there are only 3 audios - all labelled as such - and the rest are from New Who, so you should recognize most of them.

Two of the "honorable mentions" are also audios. Again, everything else is New Who.
