R&J Update, and The Illusionist Review

Two out of twenty-five performances done. Well, actually, we only did the opening night, as we were rained out tonight. Alas, the troubles of performing outdoors.

Opening night, however, was fantastic. 142 in the audience (the theatre doesn't hold much more than that - 200 at most, and that's without the front row reserved so we don't hit anyone in ( Read more... )

I don't know, I didn't think anything could get worse than Wanted. That quote sounds like something out of the anime romance series my friends watch: "His words violate my ears, his eyes are like the stars..." etc. etc. Seriously, violate? What the hell.

My ex's mom LOVES the Star Wars prequels. Then again, she also loves that song about "Someone left the cake out in the rain!" (She thinks it's about the Cold War. Insane.) and watches soap operas for the character development. No lie.

Congrats on the response for the play! I'm glad it went well. (And kudos for pulling off the eyeliner look!)

Haha. Thanks. Though I'm not sure if anyone else thinks I pull it off. In fact, I highly doubt it.

YOU LIE! The Illusionist is AWESOMES!

The prestige did not deliver on the magic it promised in the previews, and his "One great trick" was ambiguous enough that I am STILL arguing over what exactly happened there.

But let's remain above our differences and agree to disagree.

Also, I demand pictures from the play.

There were definitely some terrible, terrible lines in The Illusionist, but it won me over just for the line where the Police Guy is questioning Edward Norton about the ghost-trick and says, essentially, "Why do you keep doing this when it's getting you in so much trouble?" And Edward Norton shrugs and looks at the floor and says, "Just to be with her."

Understated. Elegant. HEARTBREAKING.

(though I do wish they had used real gimcrackery instead of CGI/SFX for the magic tricks. Would've been way cooler.)

Grats on the awesome opening night. When do you reckon I should come see you? Not as in day, I'll keep that anonymous, but an early or late date?

Man, that quote from the illusionist is bloody awful.
