Naturally, unplugging the TV and plugging it back in makes it work again.

Modern electronics continually draw power and stay in a 'warm' state so you can have instantaneous gratification when turning it on.

(You and I are both old enough to remember when TVs had to 'warm up'.)

For realzes, you need to remove all power to the box and wait at least fifteen seconds for all the capacitors to expend on all the boards to get it out of a bad electronic state, notwithstanding bad software states.
