Evidently, he had been trying to do it since Friday, but his plans kept going wrong. So finally, he changed my computer's screensaver to "Will you marry me?" and was there with the ring when I went to check my email. It's the ring I inherited from my grandmother - we'll get the stone put into a new setting when we can afford it.
