I don't necessarily agree with #1, because then what happens to the next generation of queer kids in those areas? We then teach them that the only way to survive is to run.

However, it is an issue of safety. If you're friends and family are behind you, then stay, at least for a little while. Move because you fall in love, with a job, a house, or a person. Not out of fear. Not if you have a support network.

The rest of it is pretty solid advice though.

I'm talking mostly to those who feel like they are in trouble...not those able to help the next generation. Still, I stand a bit by this advice ...especially for those paying taxes to the state. I'd rather see that money being spent in areas that deserve it. Sometimes, running is the most reasonable option. That said, I sometimes think about visiting to engage and have dialogue and thus help that generation.

Thanks for the thoughts. I personally lived in Utah. The state and church play ping pong with the people and their tax dollars. My mother is a more severe type who is the disowning type. Not all are like that though to be fair.
