"I wasn't really expecting you."
It's amused, not upset, as she leans against a rock--a just-the-right-shape-for-leaning rock--and smiles at him.
This isn't home yet.
But this is knowing there's no going back. The final stretch, as you run ever and ever and always further up and further in.
"Hullo again."

"Really?" he asks, with a faint laugh, "There was no hint of a dream on your way? I will not hold you, Lucy. I am merely here to see you one step closer."

"Oh, all right," she laughs, "it may be that I did at that."
She drops her arms as she straightens and moves a few steps towards him, sinking into a brief curtsy before she looks up with a smile.
"You were kind. I thank you for that. Truly, Lord Dream."
(The mistake in phrasing is, she was once told, often made.
And so she makes it again.)

He bows in return to her, sincerely if not deeply, and the smile never leaves his face, "You were welcome, Lucy."
This does not mean that she is no longer welcome, it acknowledges that she doesn't belong here anymore.
He won't miss her. He's learned to be happy for those who have left.
