"...the tone for the most part was such that doubts again arose in me, due in part to the dull and amazingly unscientific arguments favouring the thesis...the whole thing seemed to me so monstrous, the accusations so boundless, that, tormented by the fear of doing injustice, I again became anxious and uncertain." -A. The bold portion sounds like it could have been lifted from an Edgar Allan Poe short story.

Pish posh he made a joke about the Palin family that was, like, totally mean1!!@$#!1

I rarely watch their shows but can enjoy Letterman and Craig Ferguson ... not Conan anymore or Jay Leno, er, ever.

Craig Ferguson isn't aired here but I was a fan of him even before he had that show, back when he was in the UK. But he's not really a contender is he? He has a small audience but I can relate to him most because he's a Scot but as far as these "king of late night comedy", it's Letterman all the way. He has that absurdist humour that sometimes reminds me of Micallef, like being interuptted during an introduction for someone to come out and present to him an award called "This Is Your Lunch". It's soooo Micallef and I don't hide the fact that I'm an elitest with comedy and find most American comedy very hard to penetrate but he's a cut above the regular crap and I was in hysterics that night. Other nights are more dull than that but he always has that absurdist element. I love the guy that does the intro voice over, I remember one intro was "...and now, dance sensation sweeping South America, David Letterman!". You could barely hear it over the applause, these little gems tucked in everywhere.
