So uhhhhh. This happened? Super fascinating to write this knowing that, on the other side, Alec is constantly fighting his inner Joseph-critic and having "Fuck my dad!" epiphanies as character growth. Warnings for cognitive dissonance, I guess.

I think both of them really need to see the version of themselves that lives in the other person's head. It would shock them both and help clear up a lot ...

‘I hope he knows how proud we are’ - I think that just about killed me. Not only because of Alec’s constant self-doubt over them but because of the whole of MUP where Alec does what they wanted rather than what he wanted and the arena is just another example of that. Poor Alec. I think he really is the fictional character who I just want to be happy so much

Yeah, that line is one of the most ironic things I've written by far. Poor Alec, man.

I really do think they will reunite in this AU just because Alec deserves closure on the voice in his head. Plus things are complicated with Selene, who has a good relationship with his parents, and Alec has good memories of hers, so I think after a couple years the mentors will reach out and they'll start untangling that whole mess.
