An Issue of Naming

I bought a fish!  I wanted a pet, and I can't have regular pets (besides, pets like cats and dogs are noisy), so a fish seemed like a good idea.  I bought a little blue betta.  I picked him because he was the fish that looked the angriest.  I figured a lively fish would live longer ( Read more... )

I love naming pets! Over the years I've had Tom, Jerry, Bert, Ernie, Frank, Anna, Blanche, Harley, Nigel, Coco, 123 Little Sun Fish, Ferdinand and my current kitty (Orange) Julius.

Here are a few ideas:
Homer
Aristotle
Frank
Hank
Harvey
Mim
Zim
Zane
Rocky
Macbeth
Mercutio
Prospero
Iago
Titus
Lear
Coriolanus

Who are your favorite authors/characters? Any war-lord/fighting type names to bestow on you fighting fish? Good luck!

These are great suggestions! The Shakespeare ones have me seriously considering "Tybalt" for his name. Although, Zane is in the running, too--"Listen to your friend Billy Zane."

Because you mentioned Jaws, I am thinking about the names of the sharks on "Finding Nemo."
Why Lydia? Just curious.

I really love the name Lydia and wanted to name a little girl that but Cliff thinks it sounds like a grandma name... *sigh* I just thought that I would throw it out there.

I love the name Lydia! Mostly because I met this totally awesome Swiss girl named Lydia, and she made me love the name. I endorse that name. Tell Cliff.

My first (and only) Beta was named "Mulek". We picked a name out of the Book of Mormon because we were missionaries at the time, and it seemed appropriate. The pronunciation guide in the front is a good place to start.

Oooh. Maybe someone really nasty. Because my betta is seriously mean. I walk by his bowl, he flares up like he wants to take my head off. Hmm... I'll have to think about it.

I like the rhyming. It might work. Then again, he's a fish. He can't tell if his name rhymes.

I think Babe, the Blue Ox, would be a good name, and fitting with your history. :)

Because he's blue? Could work.

Someone at work today suggested a sports figure, and I instantly thought of John McEnroe, Mac for short. Whaddaya think?
