I am always amazed at how much more I know about computers than many of the people I know. Things that I think are basic knowledge, but apparently are not. You could try reinstalling your antivirus software, if you still have access to the application. Something has probably gone haywire. If it was just that you didn't have access to the updates anymore I would think you would get an error message to that effect rather than the app just freezing on you.

Or, just get rid of what you have and try AVG antivirus. It's free, and it works well.

If you do decide to get a new computer it shouldn't set you back too much, they're dirt cheap these days.

Thanks. I think my computer is fine, I was just overly frustrated this morning. And thanks for the anti-virus tip. I need it. Things are going better, but as a precaution I have been updating my back-up cds.
And money is only part of it--I really don't want mess with transferring old files and whatnot.
Ben, you rock.

Don't do anything I wouldn't do.

Thanks, Nettie. My computer has been much nicer to me, so I think things are going well, but I'll keep you updated. It does seem that the virus scanner got rid of the virus, so perhaps all is well.
That doesn't mean, however, that I am not still thinking of a new computer. Hmmm.

I love virus scanners when they work. Oh, the joy.

Don't do anything I wouldn't do.
