I can sympathise, at least to a degree. Movie watching is indeed serious business. I try to avoid this by watching movies on the less frequented days during the week. And I don't think I ever saw a movie on opening weekend. But I can see how the avoidance of the weekend is difficult when trying to meet up with friends for socialising. The two or three people I usually go with over the years have thankfully accepted my "conditions".
The thing is, I actually enjoy watching a movie on opening weekend, because 1) it means I can avoid worrying about being spoiled, and 2) the opening weekend audiences are usually the most hyped about a movie, and are thus most receptive. This usually leads to a more pleasing movie experience.
