Are you talking about Kodomo no Omocha here? Because I was pretty sure TOKYOPOP did that, not Viz...

I'm referring to RK here. A lot of the early chapters and some of the later ones had freetalk sections as fillerspace, where Watsuki would talk about the physical and behavioral inspirations for each character.

I actually the first 4 volumes, now. And the character voices do improve a bit as they go deeper.

If I had a scanner, I'd throw up some examples.
