Noticed you blocked email comments from the previous entry, so I thought I'd comment here. That freaking sucks. I am angry on your behalf. They just don't know what they are missing. It might have something to do with affirmative action, or whatever that bill is that requires a certain percentage of non-white acceptances. I have a friend who didn't get into her top school because she was white. Maybe if you don't think of waitlisting as good or bad, but something in between. It isn't as good as acceptance, but isn't as bad as rejection. Like purgatory. Is Western the one in Pomona? I get them all confused. *big hug*
It's possible... I do know that vet schools do try to build diversity in their classes, however it's definitely not limited to the skin color/ethnicity kind of diversity. It's also diversity of experience and life history kinda stuff -- they don't want a classful of students who only have experience with cats and dogs, for instance, they want it more evenly distributed. I've heard that WSU's waitlist isn't a death sentence and actually moves pretty good for a waitlist, but it's still disappointing. We'll see what happens.
