And Finally, Some Appreciation for the Not-Changs

Note: This recap got into some discussion of racism, mental illness, and child abuse (if you've seen the episode, you know exactly who I'm talking about right now.) There's also some relatively minor speculation on the possibility (possibility, because I'm not willing to judge just yet, but I'm worried) that Mercedes' relationship is more harmful ( Read more... )

So yes, I pretty much agree with your observations of the episode blah-blah-serious-cakes. HOWEVER. I want to comment about the Cory on Mad Men thing because hells yeah I can totally get behind that now that you've put that idea in my brain. I can see him as a colleague/friend of Pete's or possibly the next in the string of d-bags Peggy dates. Either/both/whatevs.

Cory works that dapper look like a boss.

The transformation from adorable oversized dorky boy to dapper man is so astonishing that I can barely comprehend how awesome it is. He's smoking.

It's like you crawled into my brain over this episode. both posts. So totally right there with you on every point. I don't honestly beleive they are going down that road with Shane and Mercedes....I think he's genuninely trying to encourage her to be as wonderful as he thinks she is and he's just applying what works in football to the arts. Now I never said it was a good application but I do think that was all he was doing. But I can see where you are coming from with that ( ... )

I'm with you on it being Mercedes's dream sequence, and therefore the sequins (also putting Kurt in his highest range and making him sort of extra-flamboyant, which kind of makes me shake my head at her, but anyway).

I didn't recognize Emma's Dad as Ralph Malph, actually. That's... kind of disturbing and awesome at the same time. Way to subvert expectations, Mr. Malph.

Okay, but really? If they were actually performing "It's All Over" for whatever, and they went to Kurt and said "Well, we can put you in grey like the rest of the dudes, or we happen to have this pink sequin-y blazer...?" And he was relatively sure it was a safe space (not, like, for everyday around school)? I think he probably would've chosen the sequins. So she's not entirely wrong. Now as for his super high singing and all that, maybe not. But come on. Pink glittery sequins. =)
