This was so good. And such an interesting take on Blaine's family dynamic - I don't think I've ever read a fic where his dad is the one he's close to, and his mom is the one who doesn't accept him/love him/whatever.
Poor dear :(

It's weird, because I feel like when they're not in these sort of unguarded moments, it would come across exactly the other way. That Blaine's mom is the one who kisses and cuddles and shows a lot of affection, and Blaine's dad is sort of quiet and reserved and doesn't really talk, let alone touch. So it's such a bizarre dynamic to try to show all the sides of it.

I think I understand what you mean.
Like, Blaine's dad is usually reserved and therefore kind of undemonstrative, especially around guests, while Blaine's mom would be all "Sweetheart" and "Darling" and touch his face and run her fingers through his hair, and if people around them weren't paying attention (and didn't notice that the emotion doesn't quite reach her eyes or fill her movements) they'd swear that she's the much more loving one. The one paying more attention to Blaine. But... ironically, the relationships you've shown here, it's actually the opposite, in a bizarre yet fascinating way. I love the complexity of it.

This was truly, leaden-weight-in-my-stomach upsetting and beautiful. Your interpretation of Blaine's parents is one of my favorites. It's incredibly original, and just utterly painful and gorgeous. It makes so much sense. And I'm in love with the way that Blaine reacts. It's very real, and -- well, like I said, upsetting in the best possible way. Ben is wonderful. Complicated and loving in his way and perfectly done. I'm glad that you keep writing him.

I think I'm going to get as much Ben-writing done as I can this summer. Because as soon as the third season starts up -- yeah. I'm gonna be so jossed.
