Emily nods, looking a bit wistful. She was nice. I really, really wanted to talk to her, and to ask her to stay with me a little bit longer after we got to the hospital, but I couldn't make my mouth move or get the words to come out. And then, that's when I just stopped talking for a while.
You're probably not a bad singer. Lots of people think they're bad at things when they're really not. I don't know if I'm bad at it or tone deaf or anything. But it's just something I like to do.
*looks down, swallows* My mom had to leave me because there were men who were trying to kill her, and she was trying to protect me by abandoning me. Of course, she didn't tell me any of that at the time. *frowns*
Sorry.
... Sometimes I still have dreams that she's coming back for me. Even though she's dead now. I saw her die.
Emily looks up sharply, an indefinable look in her eye. She tilts her head a little bit to the side as she gazes at Dinah. You... saw someone die? A parent? Her voice is halting. I've... never known anyone who's had that happen before. Never known another kid, I mean. I'm sorry.
She loved you, though. Her words are a statement, not a question. But I guess you already knew that.

I'd love to hear you sing sometime. I'm totally tone deaf and break glass whenever I try to sing a note (not really, but that's what Helena says).

Why did your mother leave?
