honestly after having a discussion about it.. this is my problem.. I don't want another spider-man origin movie. Give me another spider-man movie. MAKE UP FOR THE ATROCITY OF THE 3rd ONE. I don't care about recasting.. but seriously.. MAKE UP FOR 3.

Yeah, but as one person noted elsewhere, it's like Sony's thought process was this.

"So the one thing everybody hated most about Spider-Man 3 was the crazy Peter Goes Emo when the symbiote possesses him" scenes that were played for laughs, right? Clearly the problem was the people want the Emo scenes to be serious. So to make up for it, we'll make Peter Parker an Emo the WHOLE movie... and play everything seriously straight, with as much angst as possible. Maybe get a scene with his parents abandoning him for no reason as a kid too..."

I still haven't figured out why we need a reboot of this or Superman, the most recent versions of which are young enough to fit in the recent 'canon' of superhero movies.

Second thought: That's not a trailer for Spiderman. That's a sequel to Jeff Goldblum's remake of The Fly.

Third thought: OK, the running through the buildings camerawork was pretty darned cool.

Yes, but it looked better in Mirror's Edge.

You're still banning all things Marvel?? My God, Matt, get over it already! I can see why you're still pissed about the Spidey marriage (hell, I still think it's the lamest excuse for a reboot!) but you can't let it cut you off from the goods books Marvel has put out (Hercules, Captain Britain, Ghost Rider, Avengers Academy, I could go on...). I'm not saying you have to read Spider-Man again, but don't jip yourself. I'm telling you this for your own good man, let it go.

It's not just because of the Spider-Marriage. That's what started it. And the continued downward spiral of quality helped keep me away. But what permanently put Marvel on-notice with me is their continued obliviousness toward what constitutes an age-appropriate ratings system, what with Peter Parker having drunken one-night stands in books aimed at Ages 9 and Up.

Why is that a big deal? Because as a professional librarian, I depend on publisher ratings for ordering a lot of materials that I can't read personally ahead of time.

DC Comics, for all the things they've put in their T-rated books that might raise parents eyebrows, has never depicted their heroes waking up naked and hung over next to a strange woman in a book aimed at elementary school age children.

Mortally, ethically and professionally, I can't support a company that allows this sort of thing to be depicted in books aimed at children on a regular basis.

I remember when the reboot was announced, one of the facts reported was the reboot is going to try to pick up some of the Twilight audience.

So, this emo take doesn't surprise me too much. Doesn't appeal to me very much either...

I don't understand it...Spider-Man is THE DEFINITIVE WISECRACKING SUPER HERO! Why doesn't anyone want to portray him that way? Even the funnier bits in Raimi's films didn't come close to how I think of Spider-Man. Odd how Iron Man seems to have taken that title away from him.
