Ah, this is a really interesting book in the Sharpe series...

We meet many recurring characters in this book.

One interesting thing about the book is that it was written after the original 'Eagle to Siege' series, to include more of a Spanish pov in the TV series; thus 'Rifles' has more interaction and characterisation of the recurring TV series characters than the (chronologically) subsequent books.

Sharpe encounters the idea of traitors in the form of the Count of Mouromorto allying himself with the French.
*grins* to tell truth, the first time I read the book I was rooting for the Count of Mouromorto... Blas Vivar's superstitions and cloying religionism was just too repulsive for me; but once the Count showed his ebil peasant-murdering face I came round, of course.

How important do you think the Rifles are to Sharpe's identity? Do you think he sees himself as a leader?This book is the 'odd one out' of the series as it has Sharpe struggling to take command of his riflemen. In no other book, both set chronolgically before and ( ... )
