And Not Give Tuppence
619 words, Jared/Jensen
Latin!boys 'verse, for sadcypress

Jared takes him to a bar a little off campus. They walk over, Jared wheeling his bike next to him and chatting easily.

"So my best friend is this guy Chad," says Jared, shaking his head. "Total dumbass, but I like him. And he's got this amazing, gorgeous girlfriend, Sophia. If I swung that way, I'd be trying to help her out, if you catch my drift."

Jensen laughs. "So what happened?"

"So Chad, being the aforementioned dumbass, cheated on her with some freshman, in her bed."

"So why're you still his friend?"

Jared sighs. "For one thing, he still pays half the rent."

"Oh," says Jensen. "Shit."

"Yeah. I mean, god, trust me. I'm not saying he and right were in the same zip code here. Not even the same country. But, shit, man, what am I supposed to do? I told him he's a fucking jerk, a fucking loser, and a fucking asshole, and he says I'm right and he's sorry and nothing changes." Jared blows out his breath. "And he's still--we're still friends, you know?"

Jensen smiles. "Dude, you don't have to defend yourself to me. I'm not judging you for liking him. I know some real tools."

Jared grins back, dimples deep in his cheeks. "Yeah? Okay. So tell me about you."

"What about me?"

"I dunno, everything? Where're you from?"

"Richardson."

"What brings you to Austin?"

"Dallas was a little close to home. And I like Austin."

"Family?"

"A brother and a sister."

"Yeah? Me too. Older or younger?"

"Older brother, younger sister."

"Get out! Dude, that's freaky."

Jensen has to smile. "Yeah, cuz it's so uncommon."

"Shut up," says Jared. "It's fate," he adds, knocking his shoulder against Jensen's as they walk.

"Clearly," agrees Jensen.

"So, how about classics?"

"How about them?"

"What got you started?"

Jensen shrugs. "First year division requirements. I was planning to major in physical therapy, actually--had it all planned. But I signed up for Latin on a whim, and I really liked it." He laughs. "My parents were pretty pissed."

Jared grins at him. "Pretty glad, myself."

Jensen gives him a little smile back.

Jared orders about half the menu and a beer, and Jensen gets a burger and the same. The game's on in the background and Jared occasionally gets worked up, yells at the screen and sloshes his drink.

"You know, that first day I saw you," Jensen finds himself saying, "I couldn't believe you were taking Latin."

"Because I'm so hot?"

Jensen rolls his eyes, but he doesn't deny it.

"You don't exactly fit the geek mold yourself. Except for the glasses."

"Don't mock my poor eyesight, Jared."

"I like your poor eyesight," he says, winking. "Glasses are sexy, man."

Jensen flushes a little. "You're a serious flirt, you know that?"

"I'm definitely serious," says Jared, and his eyes are dark across the table.

"Yeah?" asks Jensen.

"Yeah," Jared agrees, slipping his foot up Jensen's jeans.

"Smooth."

"I'm just getting started."

Jensen isn't surprised to discover that he and Jared talk easily, that Jared is funny and charming and a blast to hang out with. It's the best first date he's had in--possibly ever.

"So," says Jared, as they head out of the bar, "drink, check, dinner, check. I've got DVDs and a bed at my dorm."

"Huh?" says Jensen.

"We're just missing a movie and a quick fuck," says Jared, tossing a grin over his shoulder.

"Oh," says Jensen. "Better get on that." And then he takes a long step forward and gives Jared a kiss.

"Da mi basia mille," says Jared, smiling against his lips, "deinde centum."

"God, you're a dork," says Jensen.

"But you're coming home with me anyway," Jared says, kissing him again.

"Yeah," Jensen agrees, "I am."
