Who: Cadoc and Monty What: Cadoc's gotten wind of some nasty rumors Where: Ravenclaw Common Room and 7th year boys' dorm When: Evening of the 17th Rating: PG, maybe PG-13
"The ickle firstie who has been wailing to beat the band is refusing to come out of Moaning Myrtle's loo," Cadoc said gloomily. One of the first-years had been homesick to the point of ridiculousness since his arrival, and two weeks had not seemed sufficient to get the boy to give over crying. "But enough of that... at least until he finally returns to the Common Room, refreshed by Myrtle's encouragement to keep me up all night with his howls. How was practice this morning?"
Ooh. That sounded nasty. "That's awful," he commented, wincing a little in commiseration. Montgomery thanked his lucky stars sometimes he wasn't a prefect; dealing with things like sobbing first-years was, while maybe not the most common of issues, not exactly high on his list of things to do. "Practice was lovely, though," he continued, as he slid into a seat, "Violetta's really harsh, it's exactly what we need to bump the team up to the next level. I was a little surprised when she picked Merlin Tovey for our second beater, but he's been trying really hard so far, he's a great compliment to Violetta's aggression. Anything new with you, though? I was a little surprised you were up when I left for practice, it was bloody early."
"Yeah, I had something to do," Cadoc murmured. He glanced about the Common Room, and in the face of the various people lounging about, decided that perhaps it would be best to take the discussion to the dorm. "I actually need to ask you about something." He walked towards the staircase leading to the dorm, and chuckled as Monty's cat scampered down and looped around his legs. Picking up the kitten, he handed it to its owner. "So, there's been a touch of babble going on about you of late. Have you heard anything?"
Montgomery gave Cadoc a bemused look-- that sounded a little ominous-- but stood back up and walked alongside the other boy to the stairs, dropping back behind in the narrow staircase. "I heard something queer about Professor Jones," he said, with a little grimace. "That was nearly as odd as the story about Chloe and Renfield. Err, I assume that's not true, at least." Accepting his kitten and tucking her against his shoulder, Monty followed Cadoc into the dorm room itself, Licorice looking about inquisitively as they went. "Why, did you hear something odd?"
