Bingos, Extras, Scoring and Prizes

Fills must be a minimum of 5000 words unless otherwise specified. The word requirements and scoring are the same for fic and podfic. Points *for bingos* are awarded based on word count, 100 points per 5000 words, rounded down. For example, a 14880 word fic would receive 200 points. Extras receive 10 points more for each additional prompt - for ( Read more... )

extra: single line, extra: postage stamp, extra: ring, mod post, bingo: blackout, extra: parallel lines, extra: four corners, bingo: straight line - horizontal, extra: diagonal pair, extra: diagonal triad, bingo: straight line - vertical, extra: border, extra: 25 in 1, bingo: straight line - diagonal, extra: blanket, extra: mirror image pair

Since the emphasis in this game is on the extras, I'd like to propose a couple strange ones:

1. snake - any five squares that are all touching somehow. (or, any three, four, or five squares that are all touching somehow)

2. L - four squares in an L shape of any orientation

3. large corner - combo of the three prompts from any one corner of the card.

I love these! I think the challenge could really use a wide variety of extras, I will add them.

Thanks! The extras are the part I'm really looking forward to, so having lots of different ways of combining prompts really appeals to me.

How do extras interact with your bingo, if at all?

Assume the boxes are labeled horizontally as A-E and vertically as 1-5. I fill A1 and B2 in a diagonal pair.

How does this fill interact with my horizontal, vertical, and diagonal bingos?

I don't think either way will really make or break the challenge, it's just not super clear to me. Thanks! :D

They don't, really. Say your extra combines A1 and B2, if you then wanted to do a bingo for the line A1 B2 C3 D4 E5, all five of the squares would need a new fill, including A1 and B2.

Thanks again! I'm just trying to plot out what I will write for which prompts and this is super useful.

If you fill several separate prompts and get to 500 points, can you still get a new card even if the prompts don't make a bingo, or can you only get points from a bingo or extras?

The fills would have to be posted to the community, so they'd need to be a bingo or extras.

...I keep asking questions. I'm sorry. So, for the mirror image extra, I'm thinking of writing a fic that has mirror images on the far left of my card, as in the left edge, with the second square up and the second square down being the prompts that are filled (so they would have one square separating them).

I'm fairly sure that if I folded the card in half, the two would touch, but I'd have to fold the square between them in half too, since there's an odd number of squares going diagonally. I'm fairly sure that even if they aren't on opposite corners, they still count as opposite ends of the card, but I'm terrible at spatial stuff, so...

Did this make any sense? If it didn't, I'm really sorry.

Ask as many questions as you like! You're probably not the only one who wants to know, and it will be useful if I someday stop being such a lazybum and put a FAQ post together.

If I've understood your question right, you're planning an extra which would look like this:

Thank you! You got it exactly right, and you explained it perfectly.

Two quick questions.

(1) With the extras, can you use the wild card square with the diagonal and triad extras?

That is, if I wanted to do a diagonal extra with the wild card and the square down/directly to the left would that be okay or is the wild card excluded from some of the extra options?

I ask because using it with the diagonal extra would essentially be a prompt + whatever you want, which isn't really different than writing a prompt period. Though I hope that is allowed because I'm having what feels like a ridiculous amount of trouble figuring out what to do with my card.

(2) In my prior experience with fic bingo, the wild card prompt had to come from the master prompt/kink list. Is that the case with longfic-bingo?

1. Yes, the wild card can be used to complete any extra. It probably is a bit easier that way, but I figure it's good if, like you said, you're a bit stuck for other options.

2. Yup, the wild card prompt should be something else off the list.
