I get home today, and it's warm inside. Unusually so, more than usual. I usually keep it between 80-85 (dipping a bit lower when I first get home, as I like to cool off after sweating at work all day). I love the heat, but trying to sleep in 85F+ with high humidity is neigh unto impossible ( Read more... )

The problem with that is that it costs money. I really have absolutely none to spare right now.

Melatonin might be of some use to you, also. It's possible that even though you are sleeping, your circadian rhythms might still be off, and that's why you aren't getting good REM sleep. I don't think it would hurt to try it for a while.

Know of any cheap / free ways to get it into my system? I have zero funds for that sort of thing right now...

You might want to look into getting some tryptophan supplements, or eating sources of food that are high in it. It's a precursor amino acid that gets converted into 5-HTP -> Serotonin -> Melatonin and has some mild hypnotic effects.

Cheese, milk, turkey, chicken, bananas, chocolate, peanuts for ex., have good amounts of it in them. That's food, food you can factor into your grocery list and nothing to fancy for your pocket.
