Definitely! Rioja is right up there amongst my favourite wines. I also like Italian wines, especially Barolo and some of the Tuscan reds. My early summer vacation this year was a week in Tuscany trying the wines and cuisine. Also managed to squeeze in a day walking around Florence. A fantastic city with breathtaking architecture and museums/art galleries to get lost in for months. Somehow I've got to back there with time enough to do some serious browsing in the museums.
I especially like some of the MontePulciano reds from Tuscany. Only a day in Florence? That´s a sacrilege in the cradle of the Renaissance! ;) Seriously, it´s been years since I visited Florence and I´m longing to return. My younger daughter lived in Rome for a while and we visited there but didn´t have the chance to go further north at the time and that was about three years ago. She and her sister spent a few days in Florence, lucky kids. :)
It was my third visit to Florence. I still feel that I have only just begun to scratch the surface of that wonderful place.
I lived in Turin for 10 months for a work relocation in 1979-80. Got to travel over the whole of Italy except Sicily and the extreme north east during that time.
MontePulciano reds - up there alongside the Riojas on my wine list :)
