I just had a conversation with my mom about Jeremy's and my living situation after we move back to North Carolina, which was a barrel of laughs. (Apparently it's okay to be living with someone outside of marriage if it is a) in a hotel, b) in a "foreign city," c) near a hospital, and d) under medical duress. Back in one's home state, where one ( Read more... )

Um. Wow.

It really says something when the least bizarre thing that someone thinks is that Florida is "foreign."

Hah. Um, "sin" aside, aren't you, you know, TWENTY THREE?

Of course, I think getting married is ridiculous too ;)

Stupid Parents mrskitty November 9 2006, 02:31:33 UTC
Yeah, when hohotread and I were getting ready to get married, we were talking to his parents about getting an on-campus apartment over the summer and for the following year. (We got married the summer before our senior year of college.) They actually gaffawed at us and said "Do you think that's *moral*?" Bill retorts with, "We've been living together since freshman year!" (We lived in a defunkt frat house called the Honors House and while girls were on the second floor and guys were on the first floor, there was no stopping us from traversing floors and Bill and I had been sleeping in the same room for 3 years at that point.) They cringed and said, "It's not the same thing!" We didn't argue at that point. Heh ( ... )

Another Story mrskitty November 9 2006, 02:45:25 UTC
One of our friends in college ended up following her boyfriend to his school the next year. They were sleeping together, as far as I know weren't even engaged, but wanted to live together. Now, this is Oklahoma, mind you.

When they told their parents of their intentions, they, of course, objected, but agreed to do the following:

His parents paid for an apartment for him, and her parents paid for an apartment for her. Everyone knew they were living together, but for *appearances* sake they had to have different apartments. *That* was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard, but I guess if her parents wanted to spend *their* money to clear *their* counscious . . . whatever. I thought it was really dumb since *everyone* knew what was really going on . . .
