Me (sorting through 23 prescription pill bottles to measure out): One Valcyte, four Prograf, one CellCept, one Prednisone, two Bactrim, one Cipro, two magnesium, (etc),... Prednisone is a steroid. It's antirejection and anti-inflammatory, and it's the one whose side effect is mild diabetes. It also causes mood swings and general crazy-feelingness, which is tiresome.

How many per day-- there are sixteen different kinds, but a bunch of them are twice daily, or every other day, and for some, a dose is two or four or six pills, so, maybe... thirty-ish, per day? He HAS to take them all or his immune system gets out of control and the lungs attack and kill him (or he gets eaten by mutant fungus from the immune system being under control enough not to launch a war with the lungs). We have been sufficiently scared into faithful pill-swallowing.
