re: summer weather: I read this post and thought, "So.... just like Seattle, then." ;) This sort of thing has even worked its way into local ad campaigns, heaven help us....

(Personally, I'm more the Ghostlike Used Bookstore Waif type, myself.)

Heh! Yes, I found Seattle very... familiar. I am told parts of New Zealand are also similar.

Gentle? Gentle?! It makes me want to die. I do not say that lightly. I have no idea how I ever managed to live in Australia... maybe small children can cope better with heat...

Oh, dear! Well, the forecast does seem to be for a general relapse into Englishness for the rest of the week...

I had a perfect Cambridge summer's day on Saturday. I cycled into the city and spent the afternoon at Jesus Green pool, a gorgeously 1920s lido. I took a picnic, a couple of books, and plenty of suncream, and am still glowing at the memory.

*grins* I am all for your telling me nice things about Cambridge! It does seem a little ridiculous, signing up to live in a city for two years without ever having been there, but it does sound delightful.

I can tell you many good things about Cambridge - I never intended to come back here after university, but it grew on me tremendously in the last seven or so years. Great museums, fun things happening, random free lectures and concerts, nice food places, and some great bookshops.

Your talk of the Isis makes me want to reread Gaudy Night. Although to be fair, most things make me want to reread Gaudy Night...

My main association with your previous yatra is you phoning me up a couple of months later to go "LAURA I AM LOST IN MY HOME TOWN, WHERE CAN I GET PIZZA". *mocks gently*

I'd forgotten about that! It doesn't seem like three years ago...
