Hallowe'en

Nov 01, 2009 18:51

Night drew in at half five: when I walked up the hill alone in the dark, the shadows and whispers of ghosts were deviated from somewhat by the entirely-earthly shrieks of the couple having a domestic dispute in the middle of the road, accompanied by the shouting, horn-blasting and general malevolence of the people in the six cars snarled up in ( Read more... )

Oh! Parties ending with everyone squished on the sofa really are the best parties.

My ghost story is not a very frightening story, but I do like it. I was asleep upstairs in my uncle's house, and he had just died the week before. And I woke up and thought somebody was in the room with me, either my uncle or my grandmother (who had died nineteen years before, the year I was born), and I was terribly afraid, but it didn't last long, and I fell back asleep. And when I went downstairs the next morning and told my mother, she said "There wasn't anything to be frightened of; they just love you."

Awwww. That is a lovely story. :)

And reminds me of another one, in fact! My boyfriend-in-high-school had a large family - five siblings and their parents, and they had lived in Ireland when they were very small. His mum told me that the house had never been reported to be haunted, but it was old and creepy and once they had moved in, she used to hear quiet footsteps and rustling skirts, and smell old-fashioned perfume on the stairs. In the end, she decided not to do anything about it. The elderly lady living in the house before had been lonely - and now there were children in the house again, and she was only haunting the place because she was happy to be around them.

Oh, that's lovely too! My favorite ghost stories are the less-creepy ones. :)

She spent hours sewing the flower designs on. I was seriously impressed.

Our fine arts building is a...good example of the 1960s. It was built, the board of trustees came by to view it, and then decided that a brick wall needed to be built around it to make more "palatable ( ... )

Also, a teen slasher movie was filmed on your campus. That is kind of awesome.

My mother had 2 ghosts at the warehouse where she used to work. She worked for a local charity, & donations to their shops came to her warehouse to be sorted & either dumped, sold to the rag man or sent out to the shops again ( ... )

Oh, I like those, especially the first one. Quasi-friendly ghosts make for the best stories, I find.

Sadly, the Grey Lady seems to have disappeared. The old warehouse burned down (an electrical fault in the charity's van that was always parked inside the warehouse overnight) & when it was rebuilt & the new owners took it over, there was no mention made of her turning up. Mum did ask the new warehouse's manager, as she'd become quite fond of GL & didn't want anyone trying to exorcise her, or something.
