Every word of this is gorgeous. Aside from the general Vala and John, I loved Lorne having to (and actually doing) shoot Ronon, and Teyla staying behind with Rodney and Sam. Hell, Sam staying behind.
As always, I am in awe of how completely you grasp the characters. I agree with everything you've said about Vala in all your above comments, too.

Wow, thank you. I sometimes think I should keep my comment replies to 'thank you' and not start in about the characters and what I think about them, since it's what the reader gets from the story that matters. But then I think screw it, they don't have to agree with me.
Lorne's charactization is probably entirely due to missporcupine's wonderful stories. He's a lot more real and present in my Atlantis because of those than he would be otherwise.
As for Vala, I really think she's a character whose potential has never been touched in SG-1 or fic. Maybe in time that will change.

I have to say this hits, like, ALL of my John/Vala kinks. The Goa'uld knowledge, the sheer accidental nature of the whole affair, the HOT SEX, the fun way Vala thinks oh, it could have all gone wrong... but it didn't! oh well, Vala's whole roll-with-it demeanor, the way things just *happen* to John, how he orients to Rodney and vice versa... and how it's all so natural.
Oh yes: hi SPROGS. Man, I'm afraid to check the amount of my Ty fics, because it might rival my serious series. What an inheritance! I guess I just enjoy the amalgam -- of the people and their worlds -- and boy it would be so interesting in John and Vala's case.
I absolutely love the quality of Vala's relationship with John, how it's tinged with that common understanding and just that touch of grit in the oyster shell. I think you should write even more so we can wallow. *whistles* ...oh did I say that out loud?

Thank you!

*cough* I may have an AU plot bunny involving these two gnawing at my ankles. No rugrats in it, though. Damn thing would be huge though. Damn it, it just grew again.
I really, really enjoyed this. More than I'd expect for a fic where John dies. But I love that he becomes Atlantis' guardian, and I love that Rodney becomes John's child's guardian, and I love that there was a child. And I loved Vala.
Oh, and I really, really loved the way you show how alike John and Vala are. In many ways, I think Atlantis would be a good fit for Vala, and it'd be kind of cool to have someone from the Milky Way who wasn't from Earth. (How cool would it be if Claudia Black were to do a guest appearance on SGA? Super cool, says me. *g*)
(I would love to see Vala added to the SGA roster. Or guest starring. But I'd want them to have her as more than a caricature and I'm not sure TPTB would succeed at that. Still, Vala and John would be so pretty together.)

This was wonderful - esp. Vala's perspective on the SGC folks.

Next time I'll try for your appendix instead. Or tonsils, if you still have them.
But I'll cop to it: I am mean. Very, very mean.

Goes off to reread own story, looking for where the big answer got leaked accidentally.
