Certain life changes have REALLLLLLY slowed down my reading, and looking at 2010's list makes me want to cry. But I still feel like I have to keep up these lists. Check out 2010, and follow along here for 2011.

List is in here! )

movies, steelers, books

How do you decide which books to read? I feel like I always have to stumble over two or three books before I find one I really get captured by... and usually I only find that one by chance.

I actually have kind of a hierarchy of how I decide what to read. First priority is anything that was lent to me, or anything that someone wants to borrow when I'm done, so I can get those handed over quickly. Second priority is anything that may have been given as a gift or just purchased based on "you should read this," because even if I don't have to pass it on, I like to try and finish a book so I can thank the person and/or say what I thought of it.

So then if I don't have anything that fits one of those priorities... I usually just sort of pick what interests me at the moment. I will admit that if I have no real preference, sometimes I pick a title based on the last thing I read. Just looked at the 2010 list and the only place I noticed it is when I did In the Lake of the Woods > In the Fascist Bathroom. It just kind of makes me laugh ( ... )

Your first two driving factors for deciding what to read are so considerate! Classic Liz :)

hey, 20 books in a year isn't bad, especially when you are busy. quality not quantity. i only got 12 in last year and 7 of that is my harry potter re-read. now that's sad. here's to more reading for both of us in 2011!

Yeah, I know it's pretty good in the grand scheme, but I used to read more like 30-40 a year. And since I still LOVE to read, I just don't get to do it as much... I used to get most of my reading done on the subway/bus, and at the laundromat. My first cut came when I went from a 30-45 minute (each way) commute to walking to work. And then when I moved to another new apartment I still have no commute, but a) the laundromat is directly next door, so I go home in during loads and usually have some other chore to do, rather than just sitting there, and b) my rent is much higher and I don't let myself go out as much, which also cuts down even more subway/bus time.

At this point, I feel like I only get to read when I travel.

My answers to both of these comments are so dorky. ha.

we all have our things that make us feel right with the world, there's nothing wrong with that.
