Despite all the anticipation, I didn't go over to free North by Northwest after all. Two reasons. First, I had to get to work two hours earlier than usual this morning, and even though I tried to also go to bed earlier, that doesn't work for me. Which means, despite FAR more caffeine today than I usually have, I am TIRED. And second, it's not ( Read more... )

Here, too, there is a certain discomfort. I spend a lot of time trying to get writing students to understand that the words we use for feelings - “happy” and “sad” and “stoked” and “sketchy” - do a terrible injustice to the subtlety of our actual emotions.

made me LOL, because it's a constant source of frustration for Brandt. "Kai, why are you angry?" "I'm not ANGRY, Brandt. I'm upset/disappointed/irritated/pick any other more descriptive adjective and insert here to a slightly more elevated degree because I've now had to explain that my emotions are far more nuanced than ANGRY."

gilmore girls is probably my all-time favorite show. you'll get about halfway through season 5 before you start to hate it. there are 7 seasons. i'm so excited that you're watching it! i think you're going to love it.

Agreed. We watched it religiously even though it started to suck in the end. Liz, you'll love this show! We own all the DVDs, too, and I told Susan I wanted to rewatch it from the beginning tonight because there are so many things I've forgotten about.

Also, unrelated to all of this, but I'm officially going to see Guster on 9/15! :-D

i really, really loved the gilmore girls. obsessively. which was the exact opposite of what i was expecting! i thought it would be some silly, fluffy thing that i would watch a few times and completely forget about. i finished the whole freaking series in about three weeks, which was kind of pathetic. it superseded everything.. all plans, all housework, all of anything. i rarely get attached to anything television related, to the point where it eclipses my whole life, but this was one of those things.

anyway, the fifth season was one that i absolutely could not stop watching, but six and seven aren't quite as great, but i think it was because season five spoiled me so much that it was only downhill from there.

ahh, i miss it so much.

I love Gilmore Girls, too! Even my husband, who made fun of me for singing along with the theme song at first, got hooked. it does dip in quality around season 5, but it has reward until the end. Hell, we watched the series finale about a week after Noah was born, and it was awesome! I cried.

I loved, loved, loved GG, but it does jump the shark, 5th or 6th season. But I still watched it - the dialogue was still great, even after the story got stupid and tired.
