(no subject)

Okay. You can't say I haven't tried. I've actually gone ahead and watched the film, which is more than I had considered for the past six months, so you got to give me some credit.

However, no. Just... no.

I found the dialogue cringe-worthy at points. I felt the director was basing himself on a lot of pre-stablished truths about the characters, while he didn't try much to do any development of his own. There were unnecessary characters. A woman, really? Really?

All in all, it must been been pretty decent movie. If it weren't called Sherlock Holmes, because it didn't feel like Sherlock Holmes to me.

It was like I was watching House and Wilson. While that could be okay to an extend, seeing they are inspired characters and everything, I'm sure I wasn't supposed to feel like I was watching an action version of House M.D. the whole time. They were like an old married couple who fought for the slightest things. The ever-present awe that came from Watson's words had just vanished and turned into an ever-present frown because his best friend was a flashy bastard as opposed to a brilliant bastard.

And of all things, of all plots, of all possibilities, we have witchcraft. Were they trying to make Holmes' revelations of the fraud obvious, or did they just try really hard to choose the worst possible option?

I'm not a master when it comes to Holmes, no; it's been well over five years since I've read any of the stories. But the movie didn't even give me a ghost of a memory of my favorite books. And unfortunately, even when I tried to disconnect the two, the movie just ended up being even more boring.

The disguises were probably what made my eyes lit up. How quickly he constructed them and how quickly he got rid of them; they were pretty much how I expected them to go.

But hey. Not all hope is lost. At least the movie provided me something good. I totally feel like reading the stories again, just ouf spite.

(on the movie's behalf, I had the shittiest subtitles ever, so that might have made it a bit worse than it is.)
