Canadian politics: priorities, we has 'em

Au Canada, on a deux langues officielles. Consequently, we have two debates come election time: English and French. The French debate was originally scheduled for Thursday evening, but then someone realized that that's the first night of the hockey playoffs. Not only that, the Montréal Canadiens are playing. I heard that the schools in Vancouver got the Olympics off last year. Dunno if that's true, but it seems eminently possible.

Yikes, I can't imagine having to be fluent in two languages. I was as a kid, but I forgot them when I learned English. *eyeroll* Your politicans are obv twice as smart as ours, lol. Although knowing Mandarin didn't help KRudd avoid being stabbed in the back and deposed, lol.

OMG, I love that your country's so sports-mad that they rescheduled the debate to accomodate the match! LOL. But how big an election is it? Just a small minor city one or the major president/pm one?

Apparently the younger you start learning, the easier it is to learn multiple languages. A lot of Europeans speaks several languages because their countries are so small and so there's another official language just a border away. :)

"Twice as smart" might be giving them too much credit....

Well, really, hockey vs. a debate? I'd probably choose hockey too. *g* It's a federal election, so about as big as it gets. (We have a prime minister, btw.)
