Title: (Il)logicality
Day/Theme: 2nd June 2010; a constant strain on reason
Series: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Character(s)/Pairing(s): John; implied John/Cameron
Rating: G
Notes: Dialogue spoilers(?) from Season 1 and 2.

She's not human. She looks like one (too much), she talks like one (sometimes) but she's not (at all).

"I fooled you."

"If you had a photo of Kyle Reese, you'd look at it, wouldn't you? Maybe there's something I don't understand."

"I don't know what I was going to do."

She's a machine, one of them. A killer. Her kind will slaughter countless people in the future, traverse the boundaries of time to commit those crimes here in the present and have already done so in the past.

"Just making conversation."

"Do I have a birthday?"

"We're not built to be cruel."

She can't feel anything. Not joy, not sorrow. She can't comprehend things like grief and companionship. Trust and friendship are alien concepts to her because she'll never be able to process those things.

"I don't think you understand how we work. I have sensation. I feel. I wouldn't be worth much if I couldn't feel."

"Future You knows what it means to lose people you love."

"I am sorry." "You're sorry? For what?" "For your loss."

It's nothing but programming. She doesn't have a soul, a personality. Her every action and reaction is scripted, a specific subroutine run when the specific event triggers it.

"Sometimes it's nice to have help."

"You know I didn't."

"I understand that being John Connor can be lonely."

Wires and circuits. Ones and zeroes. Nothing more, nothing less. The only reason she stays near him is because it's part of her mission. The only reason she protects him is because it's the purpose given to her by his future self.

"John?" "Yep?" "I love you."

"He upset you." "Me? I think he upset you." "You know that's impossible." "Is it?" "You said it yourself, John. I'm just a machine."

I'M SORRY JOHN.

He wonders when he stopped thinking all of that.
