Slowing down

Before starting cycling on the Barclay (aka Boris) bicycles, I used to walk from the office to Victoria station most nights either through Soho/Piccadilly/Green Park or via Leicester Square/Haymarket/St. James' Park. And in the morning too, but normally from City Thameslink ( Read more... )

I much prefer walking to cycling but, then, I am much older than you. But I think one sees more on foot, and I find walking less nerve-wracking than cycling though, on occasion, pedestrians can be as mean-spirited and dangerous as motorists and other cyclists.

It probably is true that the pannetone is chargin a small toll on your energy as, of course, you are growing older. But if you keep walking regularly (even 30 minutes a day), let alone cycling frequently, you should maintain your current fitness level, or so the medics tell me. Nevertheless, you probably will walk more slowly than you used to. But that just means you can enjoy the sights more fully!

I agree on walking being less nerve-wracking although it can be infuriating when the pavements are too busy!
