It's the last Bank Holiday week-end before Christmas and we're going to spend it mainly at home.
I'm writing a Panto for the residents' association which will be performed in early January, and I'm finding it rather hard work this time round.

I am not sure I understand the term "bank holiday"...as it applied to Great Britian

Bank holidays are public holidays. Some fall on different days every year (e.g. the last Monday in August); others such as Christmas and Boxing Day if they fall at the week-end are 'moved' to the first working day afterwards.

The tyranny of children: don't let them get to you. Write a lovely panto, and end it with a very dirty song. A Swan Song, of sorts, but really filthy: that way you can exit gracefully.
Of course, I realize that you do have to live with these people (and their children); but you don't have to live by their rules, as you know.
