An anniversary

15 years ago today I arrived in London for the first time. I had been to London Heathrow before, on the way to the U.S. and Ireland but never visited the city. And I wasn't just visiting for a few days but planning to stay for a couple of years.

It had all started in the autumn, when one morning I walked into HR and asked to be sent abroad somewhere

What a lovely reminiscence, with such an air of nostalgia about it. Franco, I do suspect you are approaching your "middle years," when most of us are prone to remember and consider the paths we took, and the roads not taken. I'm so glad that you took the route that has led you to a fulfilling life, and to the arms of someone you cannot envisage living without. You found more than a city and a new life: you found love.
