When the coalition government was formed Nick Clegg seemed to indicate that full marriage equality would happen in this Parliament. I'm abivalent, I have all the rights and responsibilities, but I can see that it would be advantageous to have one piece of legislation to maintain rather than two. I would imagine if full marriage equality is given that existing Civil Partnerships will be converted to marriage and pending Civil Partnership ceremonies will simply become Marriage ceremonies. If full marriage equality is given (which as you indicate is merely a paper excercise) then there is no need for Civil Partnerships at all as they are essentially identical to marriage anyway.

I think that some straight couples don't like the idea of marriage, due to all the baggage it comes with!

Best of luck!
