My (Irish) parents are similar. But after I was rather aloof with them for several years, they seemed to understand that I could have quite a nice life without them in it. I didn't want that, but if they disrespected me I wouldn't subject myself to them.

Since then they haven't come to love my gayness, but they at least know to be well-mannered. When querrelle and I announced our engagement, Ma said "I don't believe in that."

"Well I'm not the easter bunny Ma, you can believe in us."

A year later we got a wedding present. :)

Well thank you for that... it cheered me up!
(Though I won't try the Easter Bunny bit as the poor Bunny is still unknown in Italy and my parents eat rabbit! LOL!)

It's good to know that there's hope.
