I went to the dentist's this morning for a check-up

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate sitting on that chair and having my teeth tampered with?
I hate the scraping, the noises and the almost horizontal position (with my mouth full of fluid, I struggle to breathe and constantly worry about choking - the nurses suck at sucking).

the nurses suck at sucking

I ended up choking, screaming, cursing, and throwing a used paper towel at my dentist during my root canal last week. They really do suck at sucking.

It was! And I really don't usually mind going to the dentist!

The only way I've gotten through my dislike of going to the dentist is to have a dentist who is also a friend. That way, even if I'm disliking the work that is being done, at least I'm looking up into the face of a friend. Somehow, it makes it better ... not easier ... better:)

That's a great idea.
Sadly, I don't know any dentists!

£500? My goodness! Maybe insurance would be worth considering, my crown is going to cost around £80 (plus £15 a month for the last five years or so ...)

Well it is £450 (the 500 includes hygienist).
Yes I should have thought about insurance!

oh, go and look for a place in St. Juliens. THE place to be. A few corners away from La Valletta. :)

Is it pretty or just a long promenade full of modern hotels?

Thanks for the tip!

Promenade and also a charming old part and a part that's full of night life of all shapes and tastes.

So UK healthcare does not cover dental? I have dental insurance here that paid 80% when I had to get a crown and left me just a balance of $250 US to pay in the end, plus co-pay for the office visits. 500 pounds sounds to be pretty steep for out of pocket costs.

Best wishes in nailing down the lodging in Valletta...

It covers the basics, I think, but it depends on the level of fundings available.

I know that where I go, I pay the reduced NHS prices for check-ups but really not sure why I have to pay the full cost for the crown.
