A frustrated sigh slipped through Roderich's parted lips. He must be out of his mind to wish that the muggers would hurry up already and let him return to the empty house. Nothing was waiting for him, of coures not, but it was the plain hope that maybe Macbeth was already home that drove him to almost tap his foot impatiently as hands searched his pockets. Maybe if the situation was different he would have chased after those muggers. He would have chased them down and tazed them and taken out pepper spray if they resisted in any way. But no, not this time. Not when the victim was the infamous Roderich Edelstein. Even Vash was unsure of why he allowed his renounced friend's presence stand in the way of catching two lawbreakers who were practically caught red handed

The secondhand of the clock came to a complete haul. Or so it seemed to Roderich when Vash, surprisingly, did not chase after the two criminals. Instead, the officer stared at him coldly, as if he had committed the crime and should be arrested. It wasn't entirely unfamiliar to Roderich. He remembered that scolding glint in Vash's eyes; he was the recipient of it for many years. And he remembered that a smile from him would always make Vash flush, turn away, and the glint would magically disappear
